Choc Dee restaurant owners thank Universal City for new downtown parking lot

Owners of Choc Dee Filipino restaurant addressed the Universal City Council during public comment on April 15 to thank the city for a newly built parking lot on Bowie Street they said has improved customer access and increased sales.
Marley Rivera said the business has operated in Universal City since 1997 and credited the parking lot between their building and Gather Brewery with solving parking problems, reducing customer stress and increasing foot traffic. Rivera said a vlogger featured the restaurant following the parking improvement and that the owners have purchased a neighboring property where they plan to seek building permits for additional development. Rivera and partner Young Dossi thanked the city for the improvement and described it as having a “tremendous flow” impact on their business.
Mayor Tom Maxwell and councilmembers acknowledged the owners’ remarks, noting the city’s investment in infrastructure to support local businesses. The owners said they had remodeled their storefront to blend with the new parking area and expressed appreciation to city staff.
