Council extends senior-citizen task force deadline, adds hospital and agency members

Prince George's County Council members voted 6-0 on April 1 to adopt CR 18-20-25, which extends the reporting timeline for the Holistic and Sustainable Solutions for Senior Citizens Task Force and expands its membership.
According to the Health and Human Services and Public Safety Committee report, CR 18 extends the task force timeline established by CR 53-20-24 and authorizes the task force to present a final report on or before Feb. 28, 2026. The measure adds representatives from the Department of Public Works and Transportation and from local health-care systems and hospitals; the committee report lists Adventist HealthCare, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, and University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center among the newly added institutional members. Committee discussion also noted a draft amendment (draft 2) that added Luminis Health as a task-force member; the council substituted draft 2 for draft 1 before the final vote.
Kendra (Secunda) Skinner, cited as a council liaison to the acting county executive, expressed the executive office’s support for the amended resolution. The Office of Law found the draft in proper legislative form and identified no legal impediment to adoption. The HHSPS committee voted favorably, 4-0, to send CR 18 as amended to the full council.
On the council floor, members moved to substitute draft 2 for draft 1 and approved that substitution 6-0. The subsequent motion to adopt CR 18-20-25 as substituted passed 6-0.
The amendment increases the task force’s membership to include named hospitals and a county transportation/public-works representative; the resolution sets a new reporting deadline rather than creating immediate new programs or appropriations. Council and committee remarks emphasized that the expanded membership is intended to bring clinical and operational expertise to senior-services planning; no specific funding allocations were included in the resolution.
