At its April 1 meeting, the Kingsburg Downtown Business Improvement District Advisory Board reviewed a proposed one-page goal-setting brochure and agreed to track a small set of performance metrics to show businesses how assessments are used.
Why it matters: board members said clearer documentation of accomplishments will help justify annual assessments to a wide range of district payers, some of whom pay as little as $60 per year while others pay substantially more.
What the board discussed and decided: - Brochure format and content: The draft includes columns for an item, objective, action steps, target date, follow-up and the advisory board lead. Members recommended adding highlights that show specific accomplishments such as the creation of the BID’s social media channels and website, installation of trash cans and increased marketing activity. - Metrics and presentation: The board wants to include easy-to-understand metrics (for example: social-channel launches, follower milestones, and view counts) and a short “brag” section on the website that memorializes completed projects. - Distribution and maintenance: The document will be maintained as an Excel file; Abigail Palosgaard, City Clerk, will distribute the working file and print copies for board meetings. Staff will circulate updated metrics in advance of future meetings.
Next steps: one board member said they will prepare growth figures for the BID’s social channels for review; staff will email the Excel master and circulate a printable PDF for distribution with event materials.
Context: the brochure was presented as an action-plan tool to both guide board activity and provide a value proposition to assessed businesses.
