At its April 1 meeting the Madera County Board of Supervisors approved a slate of routine and policy items. Highlights of actions taken by roll call vote follow; all recorded votes noted below passed unanimously (5-0) unless otherwise indicated.
Consent calendar: The board approved the consent calendar items, including public works and finance items, by roll call (vote 5-0).
Planning commission rules: The board adopted a resolution amending the Planning Commission’s rules of order, including changing the appointing authority for removals to a current board member and shifting regular Planning Commission meetings from Tuesdays at 6 p.m. to Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Staff told the board there would be no fiscal impact to the general fund; one supervisor noted evening meeting changes may reduce overtime expenses.
Labor agreements (ratifications): The board ratified successor memoranda of understanding for three bargaining units for a one-year term from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025: the Postgraduate Licensed Professional unit, the Probation Administrators unit, and the Correctional Officers unit. Human Resources staff said delays in successor agreements were partly tied to a pending classification and compensation study.
Madera County Economic Development Commission: The board approved the MCEDC basic service level contribution of $231,515.33 for fiscal year 2025-26 (county share is 49.69% of the MCEDC request). The total JPA budget request from local government partners was reported as $465,919.35.
Letter of support for AB 1479: The board authorized a letter supporting AB 1479 (sponsored by Assemblymember David Aguiar) to change the county road commissioner structure and assign duties to county public works directors; staff noted the bill’s hearing was scheduled April 8.
Other votes: The board approved multiple departmental agreements and contract items listed on the agenda; roll call votes were recorded for each item where required.
