Walsh County commissioners voted Tuesday to pay a final invoice of $8,011.88 for removal and related costs of an ARDOT trailer and approved annual gravel and rock contracts for the countyroad program.
County staff reported the ARDOT trailer removal final invoice totaled $8,011.88, comprised of $4,305.24 for labor and $3,706.64 for equipment. Staff recommended paying the cost from the county general miscellaneous expense line; commissioners approved using the countygeneral miscellaneous fund and carried the motion unanimously.
On procurement, staff recommended awarding multiple aggregate and hauling contracts for the 2025 season: Gowland Construction to supply class 13 and other crushed materials and rock sizes; Lakeside Construction for pit-run and additional aggregations; and recommending Jim Thompson for gravel hauling at a rate of $0.215 per mile. The commissioners accepted those recommendations and approved contract awards with provisions allowing use of alternate haulers or suppliers when necessary to maintain operations.
Commissioners also discussed a township request to add or adjust a culvert crossing off County 11; staff said a full new crossing and hydraulic study was not necessary for initial safety improvements and that the township had offered to cover roughly half of the cost for a limited approach/extension. Commissioners asked staff to return with photos and more detail before approving any county share, citing concerns about setting a precedent for township-funded crossings and long-term liability.
Ending: Staff will post the contract awards, proceed with hauling options and bring back more information on the township crossing request at a future meeting.
