Homeless Assistance Program funding rises; county allocates additional $7,432 to local providers

Mifflin County officials notified commissioners that the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) received an increase in state funding and that the county will pass the additional allocation through to local providers.
Melissa Stewart explained the funds come from the state human services grant and that the state’s budget increase allowed the county to distribute more money: "It was an additional $7,432 for the county." The board approved a contract addendum to allocate the funds evenly as a percentage increase to current HAP recipients.
Stewart noted that the county uses its HAP allocation for addiction-prevention services, while the other local recipients — identified in the meeting as shelter services and the abuse network — will use the funds for clients whose last residence was in Mifflin County and who face imminent homelessness. Stewart said neighboring Juniata County received additional funds through other programs and does not distribute HAP in the same pattern as Mifflin County.
Commissioners approved the contract addendum by voice vote.
