Boca Raton council names deputy mayor, reassigns committee and intergovernmental representatives

At its organizational meeting on March 31, 2025, the Boca Raton City Council unanimously appointed Council member Nachlis as deputy mayor and made a series of committee and intergovernmental appointments, including reappointing Yvette Trucker as the city’s voting delegate to the Palm Beach County League of Cities.

The appointments set the council’s leadership roles and the city’s representation on several regional boards for the coming term. The council completed the organizational business in a single session that began at 10 a.m. and adjourned at 10:35 a.m.

Council member Nachlis was appointed deputy mayor by voice vote. The council recorded all members present for the vote: Mayor Singer, Deputy Mayor Drucker, Council member Nachlis, Council member Thompson and Council member Wictor.

The council also appointed Council member Wigder as chair and Council member Thompson as vice chair of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). That motion passed by voice vote with all five members present voting in the affirmative.

Under ordinance 56 91, the council appointed Council member Thompson as the city’s representative to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC). The appointment was approved by voice vote.

For regional transportation representation, the council nominated members to the Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) executive board and named Fran Nackless as a representative, with Council member Wigder and Council member Thompson designated as alternates. During that discussion staff reported the TPA had changed a policy limiting the number of alternates to two. The nominations were approved by voice vote.

The council reappointed Yvette Trucker as Boca Raton’s voting delegate to the Palm Beach County League of Cities and named Council member Wigder as the alternate. That motion was approved by voice vote.

The council also named Council member Thompson as the city’s representative on the interlocal plan amendment review committee (iPARC) and appointed an alternate by volunteer; both nominations were approved by voice vote. During the iPARC discussion staff noted potential overlap between TPA membership and iPARC duties because members of both bodies are working on the master transportation plan.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a roll call and concluded after the organizational items. The council noted the day marked the anniversary of members’ swearing-in and referenced the city’s upcoming centennial year.

The votes on all appointments were taken by voice and recorded as unanimous among the five members present.
