The Westminster Police Department reported to the mayor and council that it is “technically fully staffed.”
The department announced that recruit Justin Dean will graduate from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Police Academy this Thursday and will be assigned to the patrol bureau for field training. The department also said Officer Jacqueline Jurktennis completed her field training and will begin solo patrol duty the following day.
Commanders have arranged temporary rotation assignments to allow patrol officers to try detective, community outreach and task-force roles, the department said. Officials noted the expedited hiring events and an open sworn-officer application list help maintain staffing and prepare for potential attrition, which can take up to a year to replace an officer on the street.
