Westminster proclaims April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention Month; CASA seeks volunteers

The Westminster City Council on Monday proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month and invited residents to support local Court Appointed Special Advocates, the organization said.
Lisa Gallegos, executive director of CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties, told the council, “At CASA we recruit, train and supervise community members just like yourselves to become CASA volunteers where you would advocate for kids that have experienced abuse and neglect and also kids that are continuously missing school have become a big focus for us in this area.”
Gallegos said CASA served 58 children last year in Adams and Broomfield counties; she also said CASA served 448 children across the broader Denver-metro area last year. The organization highlighted volunteer recruitment and a visible blue pinwheel campaign tied to the county proclamation.
Mayor Nancy McNally read a formal proclamation that called on the community and local organizations to work collaboratively to support families and prevent child abuse. The proclamation urged citizens, agencies, faith organizations and businesses to increase efforts to support families and signed the proclamation on behalf of the council.
CASA representatives thanked the council for the recognition and encouraged residents to inquire about volunteering or supporting the group’s fundraising and awareness activities. No council action beyond the proclamation was recorded.
The city and CASA said pinwheels will appear around the county as a symbol of child abuse prevention and the Adams County courthouse will observe the county proclamation the following day.
