Darien Board of Education creates superintendent search committee, appoints nine members

The Darien Board of Education unanimously approved creation of a personnel search committee at a virtual special meeting on Monday, March 31, to identify and recommend an interim and/or successor superintendent following an announced retirement by Dr. Adley.
The board said the search process will begin immediately and that an interim superintendent is anticipated to begin on July 1, 2025. Board members extended “sincere appreciation” to Dr. Adley for six years of service to students, staff and the community.
Board members moved and seconded a motion to create the committee; the motion passed unanimously. The board then approved a motion to appoint the following individuals to the search committee: Jill McCammon, chair of the Darien Board of Education; Robin Nelson, vice chair; Sarah Parent, secretary; Dave Brown; Greg Grambling; Katie Loveland; Dennis Maroney; John Sini; and Joanna Walsh. The appointment motion was seconded by Dennis Maroney and also passed unanimously.
Board members noted that hiring a superintendent is one of the board’s most critical responsibilities and thanked committee members in advance for the additional time the work will require. The agenda included a public-comment period; no members of the public spoke.
The board moved to adjourn after the appointments. No statutes, policies or external timelines beyond the board’s stated July 1, 2025 interim start date were referenced during the meeting.
