Hamblen County board affirms participation in Education Freedom Act teacher-bonus program

Mister Ryan (board member) read the resolution aloud during the meeting and said the board ‘‘affirms its intention to participate in section 4 of the Education Freedom Act of 2025 relative to bonuses for teachers.’’ The resolution states that a local board must adopt such a resolution to receive state funds under section 4.
The resolution will be signed by Miss Claussen, per the motion and the text read to the board. Board members asked no substantive questions following the reading. A voice vote carried the resolution unanimously.
What this means: adopting the resolution is an administrative step required under the act to participate; it does not itself authorize distribution of bonuses from district funds. Actual bonus payments would be contingent on state program approval and the availability and receipt of state funds.
