County warns residents about impersonation; assessor’s field staff to display marked vehicles and ID

They emphasized assessors do not go to residences to collect taxes.
Staff also said that legitimate county assessment staff will not cover license plates and that vehicles used for assessments will be clearly marked. The board urged residents to ask for identification and to contact the county if they suspect impersonation or an unmarked vehicle is attempting to represent the assessor’s office.
Staff framed the message as a public‑safety and consumer‑protection announcement; the county plans internal reminders to assessor staff and outreach to the public so residents understand the correct procedures and how to verify personnel.
