Montezuma County extension office seeks applicants as longtime member steps down

The county received a letter from Abdel Bridal indicating he wishes to serve a second term on the advisory committee; David Temple, a longtime member, will not seek another term after more than two decades of service, leaving one vacant seat. County Extension staff said bylaws now allow two consecutive three‑year terms followed by a one‑year break.
The advisory committee provides community input to the Extension Office on programs such as agriculture, 4‑H and family and consumer sciences. Staff said most lots are already filled and the committee now has a maximum size of seven members, and that members do not have to be appointed to every slot at all times.
Commissioners asked staff to publicize the remaining vacancy and encouraged residents who live in Montezuma County and have relevant program interests to attend a meeting or submit interest. No formal vote or appointment was recorded during the discussion.
Staff emphasized that the advisory role is primarily consultative — offering “eyes and ears” in the community to help shape Extension programming — and that committee members generally receive information about local research and outreach opportunities.
The board moved on to other agenda items after thanking staff for the update; no final appointment was announced at the meeting.
