Syracuse Common Council approves routine items and honors local conservationist with honorary road sign

The Syracuse Common Council unanimously approved a package of consent and new-business items and voted to install an honorary sign recognizing volunteer conservationist Chad Norton by designating a portion of Valley Drive as Webster Pond Parkway.

The vote came during a regular council meeting in the City Hall chambers, where councilors moved quickly through dozens of agenda items and held several for committee review. Councilors also set a public hearing for the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2025–26 annual action plan to be held in the chambers at 5:30 p.m.

The honorary-sign resolution recognizes the Anglers Association of Onondaga volunteers and local residents who have worked to preserve Webster Pond. The measure calls for an honorary sign to be installed at the corner of Seneca Turnpike and Valley Drive and for a portion of Valley Drive between Seneca Turnpike and Derwin Avenue (leading to the 2000 block of Valley Drive) to receive the designation Webster Pond Parkway, subject to the council’s and mayor’s…
