Griggs County Commission approves sheriff’s-department gun-bid awards

At a March 31 special meeting of the Griggs County Commission, commissioners opened sealed bids for surplus firearms from the sheriff’s department and approved awards by voice vote.

The commission accepted the bid recommendations after staff read offers and identified winning bidders for each line item. Commissioner Zorn moved to approve the bids; Commissioner Edlin seconded the motion, and the commission carried the motion on a voice vote.

County staff read the successful bids into the record during the meeting. Among the awards recorded on the transcript were: a Glock .22—listed as “item 1”—to Jerry Ralph for $323; a second Glock .22 to Andrew Ulmer for $355; a third Glock .22 to Jerry Ralph for $353; a Glock 42 to Sam Larson for $306; a Remington 870 Wingmaster (item 5) to John Turner for $200; a Remington 870 Wingmaster (item 6) to Keith Linder for $230; a Remington 870 Magnum (item 7) that was tied between Turner and Linder and resolved by drawing (winner recorded as John Turner for $230); a Remington 870 Wingmaster (item 8) to Jim Cox for $111; and an H&R .410 (item 10) was recorded at $250 and listed to a county attendee who stated she was the successful bidder and would keep the firearm. Staff said all bids were sealed and opened on time in public.

Commissioners instructed staff to contact winning bidders and to proceed with the usual post-auction checks, including background checks where required. The county recorder/clerks present said they would assemble the award list and reach out to successful bidders.

No detailed dollar-total for the sale proceeds was given on the record, and the commission did not specify how proceeds would be used during the meeting.

The meeting record shows the awards were accepted by motion and voice vote; no roll-call tally for individual commissioners was entered in the minutes beyond the voice approval.

Following the vote, commissioners moved on to other agenda items.
