County IT and GIS staff update commissioners on LIDAR talks, EMS building tech move and AV upgrades

Corey Meyer, Riley County IT/GIS Director, updated the Board of Commissioners on technology and geospatial initiatives during the March 31 meeting.
Meyer said the county is in talks with the city about a potential LIDAR flight to update topographic data across the county; the last countywide LIDAR was completed in February 2015 and costs have increased markedly since then. He said the county may be able to fund a countywide or prioritized-area upgrade depending on partner contributions and cost-sharing.
Staff also reported preparations for moving networking, cameras and other equipment to the remodeled EMS building, with on-site installation work targeted for May and preliminary work in April. The county intends to move its phone/fax services to a Webex-based phone system in July or August, coordinated with the EMS building cutover.
Meyer said IT time is focused on security following a regional county outage elsewhere and that staff are reviewing systems for vulnerabilities. He also said audiovisual upgrades will take place in the commission hearing room (microphones and sound) and in an upper-level conference room at the FCRC; the county will install fixed TVs at Potterfall for improved display capability. IT staff are coordinating with vendors and the facilities team on these projects.
Meyer reported progress on a minutes-management system (possible May 1 go-live window subject to training completion) and on an electronic medical records procurement RFP being prepared by the counselor’s office and department staff for release in April.
Commissioners asked questions about timelines and building access; staff said they will follow up with schedules and proposed temporary office arrangements during the window of construction and equipment moves.
