Red Door Place keeps pantry, legal-help services running after executive director's death; space constraints limit growth

Sean McGoldrick, acting executive director of Red Door Place, told Manhattan Community Board 2's Human Services Committee that the volunteer-run nonprofit has continued its food pantry and social-services work after the sudden death of longtime director Teresa Concepcion and is searching for a permanent, larger space to expand operations.

Red Door Place now runs a Saturday soup-kitchen meal and a Tuesday food pantry with accompanying social-services help branded "Bridging the Gap." McGoldrick said the pantry uses the Plentiful scheduling app; it has about 1,800 active household accounts in the scheduling system and serves larger household counts when household size is counted. "One person can pick up for up to 12 people," he said, explaining how the active-account number multiplies to a larger weekly head count. For the pantry and meal program combined, organizers previously estimated cumulative weekly reach measured by household members could be in the thousands.
