Board hears detailed update on bond work, new high‑school construction moves into major building phase

Design and construction managers updated the Stillwater Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday about progress on bond‑funded projects, with a detailed briefing on the new high‑school construction and other summer projects.
Brian Thomas of 505 and the district’s construction team reported that the transportation facilities remodel is progressing with interior framing and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) rough‑in nearing completion and the bus parking lot dirt‑work finished. Thomas said several procurement packages for summer projects have begun and material submittals for other modernization work have been reviewed and scheduled for summer installation.
On the high‑school project, the team said the district has obtained a full building permit and crews are advancing slabs, precast panels, steel erection and roof installation in multiple building areas. “We have a full building permit,” the presenter said, describing coordination to resolve utility easements and infrastructure items that briefly delayed permit issuance. Site grading, utility installation and foundation pours are complete in multiple zones, and exterior curtain wall and window installation has begun in the north academic wing.
Project staff described progress in six construction areas — academic wings, community and student spaces, performing arts, athletics and the student center — and said mechanical units will be set soon to allow interior conditioning. The team reported that classroom furniture procurement is beginning and that the district plans to return in August with furniture procurement packages for board approval.
Board members asked about coordination with the city and long‑range planning; construction staff said they have been communicating regularly with municipal officials about traffic, staging and site access. The team also discussed the schedule for future bond planning and long‑range capacity decisions and said a long‑range planning committee will return recommendations to the board in May.
No board action was required; the presentation was informational. The board indicated continued interest in site coordination, community access and the sequencing of future bond phases.
