Greg Gibson, president of Gibson Consulting, told the Austin ISD Board of Trustees on March 27 that his firm identified a set of cost‑saving opportunities aimed at addressing the district's projected general‑fund deficit for fiscal 2026. The firm’s analysis estimated a potential $43.6 million in savings if the district consolidated smaller campuses, with roughly $30 million from elementary consolidations and $13.5 million from secondary consolidations.
Gibson and Ali Tylan, the project director and chief information officer for Gibson Consulting, stressed the work was an independent data analysis of opportunities rather than audit findings or binding recommendations. "The objective of this audit was to identify major cost savings opportunities," Gibson said, adding the firm presented opportunities for the administration to consider, not prescriptive decisions.
