The Town of Lakeville Park Commission on March 27 approved several event and permit requests and recorded decisions on rental and staffing matters.
The commission voted to allow a private group identified in the record as “Southeastern Mass Bacon Bridal” to hold an event in the parks this September for a $300 one-day fee to be paid in full in advance; the motion included a condition that any food trucks follow Lakeville Health Department rules. The commission also unanimously approved a fireworks show proposed by John Muliti for a Saturday event with a rain date the following day; the permit requires the operator to file the necessary paperwork with the state and the fire marshal and to provide an insurance certificate.
Separately, the commission approved a seasonal field-use application from a youth softball organization (referred to in the meeting as Free Lakes softball) for spring play beginning April 1 through a schedule that runs into July 30, with the commission noting several operational conditions about field readiness and lighting (see related story). The board voted to hire Doug Berry as director of Clearpond Park for the 2025–26 season.
On a request from the management of Loon Pond Lodge asking for a rent reduction for an August month (the management had asked for a credit or rent deduction because of scheduling clashes with TriFest), the commission voted not to grant a reduction. Commissioners said rent and rental policy cannot be routinely reduced for single dates and asked the lodge manager to work directly with parks staff for any operational concerns.
Actions recorded at the meeting included specific motions, seconds and roll-call approvals recorded in the minutes. The commission also instructed staff to communicate permit conditions to applicants and to coordinate required health, fire and insurance clearances when vendors or pyrotechnics are part of an event.
The commission chair closed the meeting after routine budget and facilities updates.
Votes at a glance - Motion to allow “Southeastern Mass Bacon Bridal” to hold a one-day event in September for $300, with vendors subject to Lakeville Health Department rules — approved. - Motion to allow John Muliti to present a fireworks show with a rain date — approved (insurance and state/fire paperwork required). - Motion to approve the Free Lakes softball seasonal field application (April 1–July 30) — approved (conditions on field availability/lighting/irrigation discussed). - Motion to deny a requested rent reduction for Loon Pond Lodge for an August weekend tied to TriFest — approved (no rent credit granted). - Motion to hire Doug Berry as Clearpond Park director for 2025–26 — approved.
The minutes show the commission asked staff to confirm vendor permits, insurance and health inspections as part of event approvals.
