On recruitment, Danos said the sheriff’s office has focused on local, homegrown hiring through career‑technical education programs and in‑county training. He said a recent hiring/testing cycle attracted 87 applicants, about 57–60 showed up for the written test, and the office currently has about 26 candidates in processing who may proceed to oral boards and academy training. Danos estimated the total cost to hire and train a single recruit through the academy — including onboarding and equipment — exceeds $100,000.
