The Sierra Vista Police Department will begin offering free child safety seat inspections and installations every Wednesday starting April 2, the department announced on KWCD radio’s First Watch.
Scott Borstac of the Sierra Vista Police Department said the service will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the front parking lot of the police department. Community service officer Amber Loring, a certified child passenger safety technician, described the work: technicians will inspect installed seats, check manufacturer recall notices online, walk owners through the vehicle and car‑seat manuals, and — when needed — install a seat properly and then have the owner re‑install it to confirm they can do so.
"I did not realize the importance of [proper installation] until I myself learned that I did not install my own car seat correctly," Amber Loring said on the broadcast, explaining why the inspections include hands‑on coaching.
Why it matters: Correctly installed child restraints reduce the risk of injury in crashes; the program provides both inspection and education, including recall checks and owner training.
The department asked drivers to come to the Sierra Vista Police Department lobby and tell desk staff they are there for a car‑seat inspection. No fee was mentioned on the broadcast.
