Cameron Elias Sablan Nicholas, special adviser to the Secretary of the Department of Lands and Natural Resources (DLNR), told the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation that the department supports House Local Bill 24-03 and House Local Bill 24-06.
Nicholas cited 1 CMC §2703, noting it is the duty of the Division of Parks and Recreation to "care, charge, control, supervise, manage, maintain, landscape and beautify all Commonwealth parks and recreational facilities," and said funding in the bills would help the department fulfill those responsibilities. He asked specifically that the delegation support sections 2(a), 2(h), 2(k)s and section 3 of Bill 24-03.
Nicholas said Nagarapen Fishing Base is complete but that the department is short by approximately $96,000 to pay vendors related to a revetment project intended for erosion protection and structural stability. He also directed the delegation's attention to "department/agency communication 24-01," requesting funding for a proposed Fisher's Proclamation Week with a proclamation signing planned for May 30; the request covers training, a festival and related events.
The remarks were presented during public comment; no floor vote on the bills occurred during the public-comment portion of the session.
