Summary
The Jotun Kizu Public Library director asked the delegation to approve House Local Bill 24-03, which proposes $15,000 for landscaping and a 'Books to Farms' seed-lending and community-garden project tied to National Library Week events.
Erlinda Cabura Napati, library director of the Jotun Kizu Public Library, asked the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation to support House Local Bill 24-03, which she said would provide $15,000 for landscaping and beautification at the library.
Napati described the proposal as the "Lehi Estaylantu, Tandagotbu Paratodo, or Books to Farms, beautification for all project," which would plant native plants and create a community garden to support a seed‑lending library and hands‑on agricultural education. She said the project would invite local farmers to lead workshops and tie activities to National Library Week events, including a proclamation signing and literacy block party scheduled for April 5 at 10 a.m.
"By investing in the beautification of the Jotun Kizu Public Library, we are investing in our community's future," Napati said, and asked the delegation to "support House Local Bill 24-03 for the landscaping and beautification of the Jotun Kizu Public Library."
Napati said the project would increase access to locally grown food, provide educational opportunities for students, and support the local farming economy. Her remarks were delivered during the delegation's public-comment period; no formal floor action was recorded in the public comments provided.
