The Tahoe Forest Health System Board of Directors voted 4–0 to adopt Resolution No. 2025‑05 opposing federal funding and staffing reductions that would affect forest health and wildfire‑mitigation capacity.
Staff said the resolution was developed in coordination with the Town of Truckee, which is leading a multijurisdictional effort to deliver joint resolutions to Representative Kevin Kiley and other federal officials; the planned delivery date is April 18. Ted Owens, executive director of governance, told the board the resolution seeks restoration of funding to the U.S. Forest Service and related agencies that perform mitigation and wildfire responses.
During public comment Deirdre Henderson, co‑lead of the North Tahoe Citizens’ Climate Lobby and 100% Renewable Truckee, urged passage and noted that elected municipal resolutions receive attention in congressional offices. Henderson referenced federal legislation known as the Fix Our Forests Act as part of the broader policy conversation and recommended the cover letter note that the district is an elected public health body.
A motion to approve the resolution carried on a 4–0 roll call; the board directed staff to coordinate transmittal of the signed resolution to the appropriate congressional and senatorial offices.
