Bronx Borough President visits CB11, highlights $20 million Morris Park DRI award and borough initiatives

“I'm very proud to say that our borough was awarded the entire $20,000,000,” the Borough President said, describing the state DRI round‑8 award and saying the funds would support commercial revitalization, park upgrades and infrastructure in the Morris Park area.
The Borough President also listed a series of local initiatives and investments the office is pursuing, including: work to establish a Bronx STEAM high school focused on healthcare and life sciences; support for a local New York Blood Center site in Throgs Neck; a birthing‑center initiative to address maternal morbidity and mortality; ongoing redevelopment plans for the Kingsbridge Armory; and park capital at Orchard Beach. She said the borough is working with state and city partners to prioritize projects and to solicit proposals from local organizations for DRI funding.
On the New York Blood Center site, the Borough President said the center had identified a Throgs Neck location and that preliminary renovation work to configure the space was underway. On maternal health, she highlighted a birthing‑center strategy and said the borough is committed to capital support and programming to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity.
The Borough President also described cultural and economic development goals — including encouraging a film festival in partnership with Regal Cinemas after Regal opened a new multiplex at the Concourse — and said the borough would expand senior resource guides and job‑center partnerships.
The visit closed with staff offers to deliver materials and follow up on borough programs; the board thanked the borough president for attending and for the updates.
