Teacher at Mountain View raises alarm about proposed class-size increases, missing social studies curriculum and late accommodations

David Redkey, a resident identified as from Mountain View, addressed the Washington Elementary School District Governing Board on March 27 about concerns he said stemmed from a recent Mountain View presentation about budget and staffing.
Redkey said he understood the principal reported a budget concern and a plan to increase class sizes for grades 6–8 to 32 students per class. He said his classroom physically cannot fit 32 desks (he can only place 24), and he relayed students’ reluctance to return if classes grow to that size. He also said a presentation highlighted some staff as potential retainment beneficiaries while suggesting others faced nonrenewal, which he called unprofessional.
On curriculum, Redkey said Mountain View had not provided a social studies curriculum beyond directing teachers to the Arizona Department of Education website, where many links did not work; he said teachers lacked provided curriculum materials for a core subject. Regarding accommodations, Redkey said his accommodation requests were not implemented promptly and that some actions appeared to have been provided only after nonrenewal decisions were in process, which he described as acting in bad faith.
The board asked Dr. Stanton to follow up with Redkey. The transcript contains no board vote or formal action on Mountain View staffing or curriculum at the March 27 meeting.
