The Board accepted a surprise annual inspection report of the Oklahoma County Jail presented by Larry Ross.
Ross said he conducted an unannounced inspection during a shift change and meal service and found the facility to be "remarkably clean" and staff to be responsive. The inspection covered laundry, kitchen, medical, a male pod and a female pod. Inspectors spoke with inmates who gave both praise and suggestions for improvements.
Ross reported several operational issues: staffing shortages, delays in inmate wardrobe cleaning tied to changing providers, difficulties obtaining prescriptions when inmates transfer from other facilities, and vents becoming clogged which can worsen temperature-control problems. He also noted improvements, including new X-ray technology in booking and positive staff feedback about operational trust and procedures.
The board moved to accept the report by voice vote.
