Moroni City Council members reviewed a range of community events and local maintenance items at the March 20 meeting, including the city cleanup scheduled for May 17, upcoming Easter activities, Fourth of July planning and local road maintenance.
Council member Sherry Green said the city cleanup will be May 17 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; residents will bring utility bills as proof of residency rather than using coupons. Green said the city has coordinated with ward representatives and volunteers to help residents who need assistance. Council members discussed prior participation levels, requests to avoid limiting loads, and typical partners such as the landfill and North Sanpete Disposal for metal recycling.
Green also outlined event plans: a glow-in-the-dark Easter event followed by a supervised dance at Center Street Park for ages 13'18, and a pageant at the middle school. Council member Brett Wolfenstein and others discussed using rental vendor booths at the July 4 celebration and adding a grease pole and other attractions; council members said booth rentals produce revenue for the city.
On infrastructure and maintenance, council members discussed road-base and gravel work for local roads and a proposed inch-and-a-half rock surface for a corner area; staff described cost estimates and phasing options (start with two inches, later add more). Council member Atkinson and others mentioned a sewer study nearing completion and additional work such as sewer-line camera inspection and cleaning. Atkinson said the sewer study will identify items that need repair and help the city prioritize work.
Council members assigned staff and volunteers for cleanup logistics and said they will coordinate youth council participation and royalty volunteers. No formal actions were taken on these event and maintenance items at the meeting; council members approved dates and asked staff to continue planning and cost estimates.
