UDOT updates Clinton on multi‑year 2000 West, 1800 North and SR‑108 construction; businesses warned of long season

"If you drive past it at the speed limit, then you might be seeing it," a UDOT presenter said, noting the contractor has shifted work to the west side of the road and that the project will continue through multiple construction seasons.
UDOT also described preparations for 1800 North work, including utility relocations and early retaining‑wall construction near the railroad. Officials said a portion of the work is scheduled to begin in mid‑March and that the 1800 North segment is targeted for fall 2027 completion. For SR‑108 the agency said it has begun design and environmental clearance; the cross section for SR‑108 will be similar to the multi‑use sections already built on 2000 West.

Officials said the closure will run roughly 20 days in two 10‑day legs: one 10‑day closure of the east leg followed by a 10‑day closure of the west leg, with north‑south traffic maintained and local detours provided. "Currently scheduled for the week of April 7," a UDOT speaker told the council when asked about exact dates.
Council members requested that UDOT maintain continuity of lighting, planters and corridor aesthetics the city has installed along the downtown stretch. UDOT said those preferences are translating into its approximately 30%‑complete design and that the agency is working to reduce or avoid detention ponds where feasible to preserve commercial frontage.
Council and staff reaction: Council members and the mayor urged UDOT to prioritize business access and to share timely detour and schedule information. The council thanked UDOT staff for outreach efforts and asked the agency to provide opt‑in notifications; UDOT said it has a QR‑code signup and will publish weekly updates for active projects.
Looking ahead: UDOT said construction on the 2000 West corridor began years ago and that design through the next phase will extend the program of work in the city through 2029.
