Nagle told the council she has written about Cherokee history, including a recent book that won an Oklahoma Historical Society award and investigative podcast work about sovereignty issues. “I think it’s really important that as Cherokee people we tell our own stories,” Nagle said.
Taylor described decades of volunteer work focused on Cherokee historic sites and community organizations, saying she has served as secretary of the Dwight Mission Cemetery Association for 25 years and as president of the 14 Flags Heritage Club for about 20 years.
Council members praised both candidates; several asked that the losing candidate be considered for future openings. The council conducted a roll‑call vote; the final tally was 9 votes for Taylor and 8 for Nagle.
