The Ken-Caryl Metro District presented its monthly financial report at the March meeting, reporting a healthy year-end general fund balance and a March property-tax distribution while the finance director announced her resignation.
Finance presentation and key figures: Staff said the unaudited general fund balance was approximately $2,800,000 as of Dec. 31, 2024. The board packet included 2024 actuals and the 2025 budget showing a $500,000 journal transfer from the general fund to the capital reserve posted Jan. 1, 2025. Staff reported a seasonal property-tax distribution received around March 10 of about $1,100,000 and noted a likely secondary seasonal receipt in May.
Audit and internal controls: Staff told the board that audit field work is scheduled to begin the week of May 12 and that financial reconciliations required for the audit are complete. The presenter said the district's internal controls and reconciliations have been prepared for audit fieldwork.
Resignation of finance director: The meeting included a resignation announcement. The finance director, Lauren, said she has resigned from her position and that this was her final board meeting. Lauren thanked staff and board members; board members publicly thanked her for multiple clean audits during her tenure.
Other financial items and context: Staff highlighted early 2025 capital purchases, including a mini-bunds bus, a dump truck and parks equipment. Staff also noted the board-approved $500,000 transfer to the capital reserve fund at the start of the year. At least one board member thanked Lauren for overseeing five consecutive clean audits.
Staffing and elections: Staff updates at the meeting also included election news: two candidates โ David Boone and Jeffrey Deshine โ were the only self-nominees for two open Metro District board seats, so the May election was canceled and the two will be sworn in at the May meeting. Staff also reported active aquatics hiring and an April 12 Easter event.
Ending: Board members thanked the departing finance director and asked staff to continue audit preparations. No budget amendments, ordinance changes or formal votes affecting tax rates or appropriations were recorded at the meeting.
