The Forest Park Downtown Development Authority approved two separate actions on March 27 affecting 819 Forest Parkway: a Georgia Power tree-trimming easement and an emergency repair authorization not to exceed $35,000 to prepare the site for a new tenant.
Board members voted earlier in the meeting to approve Georgia Power's offer of $300 for a trimming easement near the corner of the parcel; the board approved the easement by motion and roll-call vote.
Later, staff reported that procurement and public-works inspections identified mold and HVAC issues inside the suite intended for the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, the partner that will run the city's new workforce-development intake center. DDA staff requested and the board approved an emergency authorization "not to exceed $35,000" to address mold remediation, HVAC repair, painting and other necessary work so the space is safe and habitable for an April 18 opening.
Economic development staff said the Atlanta Center will occupy 819 Forest Parkway, Suite D, and will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting on April 18 at 10 a.m. The DDA asked staff to seek reimbursement or other cost-recovery mechanisms where possible; staff said they would pursue those avenues and report back.
The measures were framed as time-sensitive: staff described the repairs as needed immediately and told the board the procurement office had just completed its review and bid solicitation. The motion included authorization for staff to pursue ways to recoup all or part of the expense.
Both motions were adopted by roll-call vote. The DDA's economic development director, in separate remarks, also noted the DDA's involvement in broader downtown projects including property turnovers and partnerships intended to bring workforce and small-business resources to Main Street.
