Committee forwards Trinity Granger Osterre to full Senate for UVI Board of Trustees seat

The Committee on Rules and Judiciary voted on March 27 to forward Governor Brian’s nominee Trinity Granger Osterre to the full Senate after a confirmation hearing in which she outlined her ties to the university and plans to support STEM and workforce development at the University of the Virgin Islands.
Granger Osterre told the committee she is an alumna of UVI’s 3–2 engineering pathway and later earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering. She described eight years at Diageo USVI, service as an adjunct professor at UVI from 2012 to 2018, and her role as co-founder of Tysum Tech LLC, described in testimony as a U.S. Virgin Islands–based environmental engineering firm that employs locally.
Why it matters: Senators questioned how she would contribute to UVI’s 2025–2030 strategic plan and to expanding STEM education, workforce development and partnerships with industry and partner universities. Granger Osterre said she plans to “encourage people to consider UVI as an option” and to strengthen ties between UVI and external academic and research partners to expand research and experiential opportunities for students.
Committee members also discussed long-running higher-education initiatives, including a multiyear effort to establish a medical school and the possibility of focusing on allied-health and technical programs. Granger Osterre said technicians and applied programs are important and urged continued pursuit of ambitious goals for the university.
Motion and committee action: The committee voted to forward the nomination by roll call; the clerk recorded seven yeas and no nays. The nomination will appear on the full Senate calendar for a final vote.
