Senate committee forwards Elizabeth Guadalupe Perez to full Senate for Real Estate Appraisers Board seat

Perez, who identified herself as a residential real estate appraiser who has worked in the territory since February 2006, told the committee she trained under local appraisers and completed the coursework and field experience necessary to become certified. “I started as a secretary… I started learning every aspect for appraising,” she told senators, describing roughly an 11-year process of education, supervised fieldwork and licensing.

Perez said she has mentored younger appraisers and would prioritize a training program to expose students to the profession and provide supervised hours.
During three-minute rounds of questioning, senators asked Perez about ethics, professional standards and her ability to serve while managing health issues she disclosed. Perez said she is undergoing cancer treatment but told the committee she would “prioritize” service if confirmed and that she intends to help develop mentorship and training pathways.
Senators also asked about her familiarity with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and continuing education requirements; Perez said she would maintain adherence to national standards and annual education requirements.
Motion and committee action: Senator Clifford A. Joseph moved to vote favorably and forward the nomination; the motion was seconded and the committee recorded a roll call. The committee report reads five yeas and two absences. The nomination will now go to the full Senate for a final vote.
