Sponsor Chair Katiza Wootun described the bill as finishing transfers of existing statute into DCYF and making conforming changes that the reviser's office could not effect through administrative instruction. Department staff confirmed the bill is largely conforming and that no new "nefarious" authorities were added. Members asked questions about whether further consolidation of duties and data access will follow and the sponsor said efficiencies and additional changes could be pursued after the transition is complete.
The committee approved a voice motion to re‑refer the bill to Judiciary.
