Committee members said they vetted the festival's budget and past requests before voting. The committee approved the Neskatunga application for up to $5,800; the organizer agreed to return with a post-event recap for the committee. Members noted the festival faces several costs that affect its budget, including event insurance (described in the meeting as about $3,000) and venue rental fees for the recreational complex (discussed as roughly $550), and discussed efforts by the organizers to seek grants and fundraisers such as T-shirt sales and workshops.
The committee also approved funding for the Race Cruise, awarding $2,244. Organizers described plans to expand the event for a city reunion year, including more entertainment, additional vendor/vehicle staging along the boulevard, and temporary restroom facilities to manage crowds. Committee members discussed earlier, larger requests for the Race Cruise in prior years; the committee's award reflects the amount motioned at the meeting.
On the Alpha Rotary request (item 5 on the agenda), members agreed to table action to allow a Rotary representative time to attend and present in person.
As part of routine business, the committee approved minutes from the February 19, 2025 meeting. Members also reviewed the financial report for February and a year-to-year comparison; staff reported the committee is running ahead of the prior year through three quarters, with a roughly 5% positive variance noted in the discussion.
Committee chairs asked grantees to provide post-event summaries. Organizers of the approved events said they would return to report outcomes and registration figures after their events.
