Placerville City Council proclaimed April 25, 2025 as Natural Connections Day to recognize the El Dorado High School Natural Resources program and its student-led outreach to seventh graders across the county.
Mayor Clerici read the proclamation and invited students and program leaders to the dais for a photo. Students described planned stations for middle-school visitors including beekeeping, fire ecology, aquaponics, forest management and wilderness first aid. Isaac Gauci, a junior at El Dorado High School, said the East Campus program links students and community partners and noted the programhas hosted hundreds of students since 2008.
Maggie McGay, a junior and president of the Natural Resources program, said the event teaches native-plant cultivation and construction of "bug hotels" to introduce young students to native species and ecological concepts. Community speakers praised the programas a practical workforce pathway and commended student leadership.
Council members and staff expressed support for the student-led event and agreed to provide a proclamation and publicity assistance; the council did not take additional policy or budget actions on the item.
