Redondo Beach cultural arts commissioners push arts into city strategic plan, preserve public-art funds

Redondo Beach Cultural Arts Commission members on the evening’s agenda asked City Hall to treat arts and culture as a priority across multiple city projects, charged a commissioner to draft a letter with staff to present the commission’s recommendations to the City Council and approved motions asking staff to roll over existing public‑art project allocations and to reserve unallocated John Parsons Public Art Fund money for an LGBTQ public art project and for utility‑box artwork.

The commission’s advice comes as the City Council prepares a new strategic plan and the city prepares its FY 2025–26 budget. Jack Meyer, the city’s cultural arts manager, told commissioners the council will hold a strategic‑planning session in April and “we recommend… that you all select someone to work with staff to draft that letter,” so the commission’s input can be formally forwarded to the council.
