North Providence assistant superintendent outlines spring testing, reading events and health week

Assistant Superintendent Seitinger reported to the North Providence School Committee on the district's spring assessment and instructional support plans, saying the district is beginning its spring i-Ready assessments and using existing data for targeted interventions and progress monitoring.

"Currently we are going to be doing our spring iReady assessments, that will start in May and we're looking forward to that data but currently we're using the current data we have to work on interventions for our students, progress monitoring, and, of course using our curriculum aligned to that," Seitinger said.

Seitinger told the committee that grade 5 ELA testing began this week and that districtwide "Reading Across the District" activities were held March 3–7 with a district reading theme. The assistant superintendent said the district will hold a district health and wellness week the week of May 19–23 and that continued curriculum work includes spring learning walks focused on science instruction; one such learning walk was scheduled at Ritchie Middle School the following day.

Seitinger also reported that induction meetings for new teachers and induction coaches have been successful, with new teachers meeting regularly with coaches. The assistant superintendent highlighted ongoing social-emotional learning (SEL) work, referencing an SEL coordinator, therapy dogs and a named district program mentioned on the record.

The committee did not record extended public discussion on these updates during the meeting; the report was presented as an operational update and no committee action was required.
