"Any entity that is opening schools that takes away from public schools in any form or fashion, whether it's students, monies, focus or attention, is not in support of public ed," Howard said.
Board members discussed standards and transparency differences between charter operators and independent school districts. A trustee noted that some charter schools are not held to the same data‑reporting expectations as traditional public ISDs and may not publicly share the same assessment information or final results. That trustee encouraged community members to contact state policymakers with concerns about local charter expansion.
No formal action was taken; the superintendent presented the notification to the board so trustees and the public would be aware of the charter proposal and the district's intention to engage with existing charter operators in the area.
