Wenatchee School District board selects four candidates for interviews to fill open seat

The Wenatchee School District Board of Directors on March 26 recessed into an executive session to evaluate applicants for appointment to board position No. 4 and, following the closed session, voted to select four candidates for interview.

Board members entered a 60-minute executive session “to evaluate the qualifications of candidates for appointment to the board,” held pursuant to district policy No. 1410 and RCW 42.30.110, the Washington Open Public Meetings Act provision that allows closed deliberations on candidate qualifications, the board announced before going into closed session. The session began at about 1:03 p.m. and the board reconvened in open session after the executive session.

After returning to open session, a board member moved to “select the following four applicants to interview in a particular order,” and read the names as transcribed: Mark Menton Belton; Carrie Gavin; Alisa Bones; and Anne McLean Johnson. The motion was moved by Maria and seconded by Julie. The board conducted a roll-call vote; members voiced their approval and the motion carried.

Board member Martin thanked all applicants, saying, “The board really appreciates all applicants for your community spirit and support of public schools. We are very fortunate to have candidates of such fine quality as you all are.”

The board did not disclose additional details in the public record about the applicants’ backgrounds during the meeting. The board’s announcement said it would ask for a motion to select candidates to be interviewed following the executive session; the district did not provide further scheduling or procedural details on when interviews will occur during the meeting transcript.
