County hires housing coordinator; staff pursue test well and engage HOAs on Pathfinder project

San Miguel County staff reported progress on housing staffing and site work at the March 26 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.
The county said Andrea Azaria has accepted the newly created housing coordinator position and will begin work the week after the meeting. County staff said Azaria will start on onboarding tasks and early research projects to support county housing initiatives.
Staff updates: County staff said they reengaged the Alta (Ali?) POA board and are scheduled to attend a meeting with the POA to discuss housing ideas and next steps. Engineering discussions with RightWater Engineers are ongoing regarding an MOU with the San Bernardo homeowners association and possible drilling of a test well this summer to serve the Pathfinder project site. Staff said results of prior geotechnical assessments raised concerns about on‑site water availability, so staff also plan to explore a surface‑water supply option as a contingency.
No formal votes were taken on housing projects at the meeting. Staff characterized the MOU and water options as works in progress and said they will continue outreach with HOAs and engineers as details are negotiated.
