Board appoints Keanna Sears to fill Legislative District 9 Senate vacancy

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors on March 26 appointed Keanna Sears to fill a vacancy in the Arizona Senate for Legislative District 9 in Mesa.
Supervisor Mark Stewart, who led the appointment process, told the board that three Democrats had been submitted by the LD9 precinct committeemen and that he reviewed the candidates and community feedback. “Pursuant to ARS 41-12-002, we will be selecting Keanna Sears as our nominee for Legislative District 9 in Mesa,” Stewart said, and moved to nominate Sears.
Supervisor Gallardo seconded the motion. Supervisors discussed the importance of the legislative role and offered advice to the nominee; several supervisors noted their own legislative experience and encouraged the appointee to listen and learn. The board voted; supervisors voiced aye and the motion carried.
The action fills the state senate seat according to Arizona statute governing county selection of legislative replacements. Supervisors did not record a roll-call dissent; the clerk announced the motion carried and congratulated the new appointee. No additional conditions, amendments or follow-up reporting were recorded in the meeting minutes.
