The Lake Elsinore City Council presented a Business in Action Spotlight to Michi’s Tacos at the meeting, recognizing the downtown restaurant for its contributions to the community.
David DeVries, the city’s economic development manager, introduced the spotlight program and said the March recognition honored Michi’s for “consistently going above and beyond” and for supporting local nonprofits and community programs. DeVries said the program provides a marketing video, certificate and promotion through the city’s channels.
Owners Herman and Carol Herrera said they began in May 2019 inside a small carniceria and later moved to downtown Lake Elsinore. “We centered everything that we did around people. So taking care of our team, taking care of the community,” Herman Herrera said, accepting the recognition. The owners described menu items, local sourcing and multiple expansions, including a second location at Diamond Stadium opened in February 2022 and a third location in Menifee.
City leaders praised the restaurant’s community work, including partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, the Boys & Girls Club and annual holiday drives. No council action or budget allocation accompanied the recognition; it was ceremonial.
The city rolled a short promotional video and presented a certificate signed by the council. The owners expressed gratitude and said they plan further growth while maintaining community ties.
