Beverly Hills High School’s counseling team received national recognition and the district reported broadly positive results from a recent Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation visit at the March 25 Board of Education meeting.
At the meeting, Principal Russell Stewart and WASC coordinator Barbara Nelis described the counseling team’s RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) designation from the American School Counselor Association, calling the award “a rigorous recognition” that benchmarks the school against national counseling standards. Presenters said only about 18 California high schools held RAMP status, and that the designation reflects data‑driven, comprehensive counseling services that support academic planning, college and career readiness, and social‑emotional learning.
WASC visit: Nelis told the board a visiting team of California educators toured classrooms, met staff and students and reviewed a submitted self‑study. The visiting committee highlighted strengths including college readiness, integrated student supports, technology integration and campus climate while recommending focused work on attendance and chronic absenteeism, differentiated instruction and expanded access to advanced coursework. The WASC Governing Board will issue the district’s official accreditation outcome in May; the district expects it to be a standard six‑year accreditation with a mid‑cycle review.
Student achievements: The board also recognized Beverly Hills High students who qualified for the state SkillsUSA competition after regional placements in areas including audio production, video news production, baking and culinary demonstrations. Students named in the regional results included Alex Erwin and Dara Momeni (gold, audio production); winners in other categories were listed by program staff during the meeting.
Why it matters: RAMP status and a positive WASC validation are evidence the school’s counseling and academic programs are aligned with national standards and that campus supports are producing measurable results. Trustees praised staff leadership and noted the designations support ongoing efforts to expand academic pathways and post‑secondary readiness.
