Superintendent Baldwin briefed the Township of Ocean School District Board of Education on upcoming spring events and recent curriculum and extracurricular additions.
Baldwin said schools observed autism awareness and acceptance activities and described several student events: OTS celebrated a seventies-themed day and a "crazy sock day," Leaside Lip Sync will be held at the Joe Kalea Theater in the Jersey Shore Arts Center, the high school will host a new-schedule information session for parents, OTHS has a band chants auction, TOIS will hold a talent show next Tuesday and the high school spring musical is scheduled for April 3'0, April 4, April 5 and a Sunday matinee on April 6.
In instruction and curriculum, board members welcomed a new Spanish course designed for students already familiar with the language who want deeper cultural and grammar study. Board members also praised recent art month displays across elementary, intermediate and high schools.
On extracurriculars and personnel items, board members noted a girls flag football program appearing in the personnel/activities list (ages and levels not specified in the meeting) and expressed enthusiasm about a $3,000 grant award and the district's esports program. One board member said the transfer report format was changed to clarify accounts and movement of funds.
The board conducted second readings of revised policies (student-oriented policies) and indicated a third reading would occur at the next meeting before final adoption.
The meeting also included a moment of remembrance: a board member offered condolences after the recent death of community member Bob Mahan.
