Sean Cook, a representative of the Park Theater Group, presented a conceptual plan to the Parks and Recreation committee for a youth-focused performing-arts education program that would combine classroom instruction with on-the-job training.
Cook said the program — proposed under a working name (McMinnville Performing Arts Council / marketing name Impact) — would teach technical and creative skills including lighting, sound design, podcasting, acting and writing. He told the committee the idea is to pair classroom learning with internships and project-based work at local partners such as Ben Lomond TV, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and Motlow State Community College.
“This is all conceptual at this point. We don't have commitments from anybody, but there is definite interest,” Cook said. He emphasized the group would not be asking the city for money at this stage but would need facility access and support if formal partnerships develop.
Committee members expressed support and encouraged Cook to continue planning and return with more detail. Cook said the group is in early conversations with MTSU and Ben Lomond and planned to meet with Motlow and other partners; he described the program as a way to develop technical skills among local youth and provide workforce pathways into media and performance careers.
No formal action or funding decision was requested or made during the committee meeting.
