Councilmembers discussed a proposal to change regular council meetings from twice monthly to once per month (the fourth Tuesday) to align with planning commission timing. Staff and councilmembers discussed trade-offs: administrative efficiency versus the risk of longer single meetings and reduced real-time oversight of fast-moving permits.
Ty (city staff) said administratively one meeting per month is easier (one packet, one set of minutes), but recommended regular email updates to council on administrative matters if the schedule changed. Several councilmembers said they preferred keeping the current twice-monthly cadence and cancelling meetings when business is light; others favored keeping a standing work session for deeper policy conversations. The council did not adopt a schedule change during the meeting and agreed to continue the current calendar for now.
City-manager and staff reports included: delivery of new recycling carts to one side of town, an application for a new multi-phase subdivision called Morgan Creekside Meadows (multiple lots/units; staff to process), and a State Street power-line relocation project that will also address a deteriorated sidewalk on 250 East. Staff also said the Riverside Park baseball field project โ a county grant-funded effort to restore lights and other improvements โ is moving forward; staff noted the project estimate and a potential cost split with the county.
Councilmembers raised graffiti under the new bridge and asked staff to pursue cameras and lighting as part of the final bridge-completion work. Staff said they would pursue franchise-agreement remedies and vendor responses where utilities or right-of-way work is needed.
No formal ordinance or budget votes occurred on these updates; the council asked staff to keep the council informed and to return on specific items as required.
