The Fox C‑6 Board of Education on March 25 approved a set of curriculum adoptions and license renewals, including a middle school science adoption of Amplify, an amended K–5 Amplify English language arts purchase adding materials for self‑contained and co‑teacher special education classrooms ($309,878.34), a one‑year renewal of the MySci elementary science license ($135,450) and a two‑year renewal of Edmentum Apex online learning for $165,000.
Board members heard a presentation from Robin Green, director of professional development, who described the middle school adoption process and pilot. Green said the adoption team evaluated eight resources, piloted two from January through March and recommended Amplify based on teacher feedback and alignment with the district’s science instructional approach. "The students actually take on a role," Green said of Amplify, adding that lessons start with phenomena and include simulations, hands‑on materials, reading, writing and supports for English‑language learners.
Tracy Haggerty, chief teaching and learning officer, answered questions about materials and kits and said the middle school kits provide consumables and materials intended to last two to three years; later replenishment would come from local vendors. For the amended K–5 ELA purchase, Haggerty said the $309,878.34 increase covers grade‑level materials for self‑contained and co‑teacher elementary classrooms and was determined after meetings with department chairs to avoid over‑ordering.
Chrissy Revcar, executive director of finance, told the board the MySci renewal will be paid from this year’s curriculum budget and that savings on other line items made the renewal possible without an additional appropriation. The Edmentum Apex renewal, a digital platform used for credit recovery and some first‑time credit courses, was presented as a two‑year agreement paid in two installments; district staff said about 1,000 students use the platform across high school, middle school virtual and summer school programs.
The board took separate motions on each item; all four motions passed on voice votes.
The approved purchases will add instructional materials and software access across elementary, middle and high school grades and include initial kits and professional development for teachers. The board did not provide a detailed long‑term replacement schedule for consumables beyond the statement that kits were expected to supply materials for two to three years.
